Super Sports Cars : They only compete with their own shadow.

They only compete with their own shadow.

Competition between super sports cars in fastness is pushing speed limits to the extreme. With the full support of technology behind them, cars which are now able to go up to over 400 kilometers are challenging gravity. For the time being there is a great competition between Americans and Italians. Do not be surprised if you see the limit go up to 500 kilometers in the next couple of years!

When cars, especially the ones with jaw dropping prices, are being discussed, speed and power are the first qualities that come to mind. While some of us can only dream of owning one of the fastest cars in the world, the most prestigious automobile brands are continuously working to produce these cars. Lately the competition between brands like Ferrari, Bugatti, Koenigsegg and Hennesey has made these super cars stronger and faster like they have never been before.

When the prices of these automobiles and the legal speed limits in traffic are considered, it is not hard to predict that this implacable competition between these brands will limit itself to only numbers. Most likely, these unique cars will never be able to show their potential on the road and many will be locked up in garages as prestigious members of private collections. As these brands are relentlessly trying to create faster and stronger cars, we are left to enjoy this parade of power.

When talking about speed, the first name that comes to mind is of course the fastest mass production car in the world; Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, reaching up to 431,072 km/s. Veyron which has an engine of 1200 HP and which is considered the most expensive mass production car (2.5 million Euros), gets it’s name from the Bugatti motor racing driver Pierre Veyron who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 1939. Veyron reaches 100 km/s in only 2.5 seconds. It is also important to note that the cabrio version of Veyron, Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, holds the title of the fastest cabrio automobile of all time because it reaches up to 408, 84 km/s. The power and speed of Veyron must not have been enough for Bugatti as this French automobile manufacturer has announced that they will be promoting a new collection named ‘Super Veyron’ in the Frankfurt Motor Show next September. With its ability to reach 100 km/s in 1.8 seconds and its maximum speed of 460 km/s, Veyron is expected to break a new record and without a doubt the new Veyron’s progress also has to do with the influence of its competitors.

The reason why Bugatti wants to make Veyron faster and stronger is probably the American road beast Hennessey Venom GT… Veyron has been holding the title of the fastest mass production automobile since 2010. Last february, Hennessey claimed that Venom GT, which can go up to 300 km/s in only 13.63 seconds and thus is officially the fastest accelerating car in the world, now holds this record after it was able to speed up to 427.6 km/s during the speed test in Houston, USA on April 2nd. In reality the numbers are clear, Venom GT was not able to beat Veyron; however the version of Veyron which is offered for sale is electronically limited to 415 km/s. According to the American based company, in this case, the mass produced and sold car Veyron has no way of holding this speed record. Guiness, which tracks down records, has stated that both automobiles do not possess this record and that they are investigating this matter.

The producers of Koenigsegg Agera R fully trust their new automobile. In their statements, the brand has stated that Agera R’s qualities such as its weight, power and speed are much more impressive than other super automobiles like Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1.

Agera R, with its 1,140 HP, has a maximum speed of 440 km/s. Its 5.0 litres V8 engine allows Agera R to go up to 320 km/s in only 17.68 seconds. Weighing only 1,434 kg, this super car is in every way impressive. In its promotion in Geneva, Koenigsegg announced that Agera R is faster than Pagani Huayra. Agera R which is being improved constantly is expected to become one of the most important rivals of Veyron in five years.

The new Ferrari with its 963 HP became a major hit at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show. This road beast named LaFerrari has a V12 engine and also an electric engine. This feature puts LaFerrari aside from its rivals. Even though it is not as fast as Veyron or Venom GT, due to its hybrid engine, it is the strongest vehicle produced by this enormous Italian company.

Previously introduced as a concept with the name F150, LaFerrari’s V12 engine is 800 horse power. In addition to the power of its V12 engine, this car’s electric engine produces 163 HP. LaFerrari has the maximum speed of exactly 350 km/s, it can go up to 100 km/s in less than 3 seconds and in only 15 seconds it’s speed can reach up to 300 km/s. This automobile’s C02 release is only 330 grams per kilometer. The Italian automobile manufacturer’s plans on LaFerrari are very interesting. Luca di Montezemolo, the owner of the company, has announced that they will be working on producing a 1200 horse power LaFerrari with the same hybrid engine. The company’s aim is to make LaFerrari the fastest mass production car of the world.
