For parents, their kids’ health is more important than anything. Parents hear many things on the subject of feeding their children but a more precise advice can be useful. Within these series of posts, we will try to understand which kind of food is unhealthy for kids.
1. Sugar sweetened beverages:
This is the most important thing to avoid and it doesn’t matter how old or how thirsty you are! If you are thirsty, best drink is water as most people would agree. This kind of beverages like soda, juice drinks, coke, iced tea and lemonade gives a very little amount of energy and is in most cases the number one cause of excess calories in teenagers.
A study from the University of North Carolina showed that people consume 450 calories a day from beverages, twice the amount from 30 years ago! This increase in numbers adds extra 23 pounds a year that we and our kids are forced to work off — or carry around with us.
There’s good news and bad news when it comes to liquid calories. The bad news is these kind of calories are hard to resist for kids. It’s very hard to resist the siren call of those sugary, neon-colored tasty drinks. The good news is, with the right alternatives, they are the easiest calories for you and your kids to cut.
