The Pearl of St. Petersburg: Hermitage Museum

Hermitage Museum is one of the most popular tourist attractions in St. Petersburg. Among the world’s leading art museums, it is located in the top 3. Rather than being a museum of art, it is actually an art complex of 6 different buildings.

The first and oldest of these buildings is the Winter Palace, which is the residence of the ancient Empire. The Winter Palace was designed in 1754 by architect Rastelli upon orders of the Empress Elizabeth Petrovna. It is possible to say that the Palace is one of the most beautiful and important examples of architecture with its Baroque style.

You can be sure that more than 3 million works on display in this enormous collection will fascinate you. Even if you examine every piece of work on display for just one minute, you should spend your years here to see all the pieces of the complex. For this reason, when planning your visit, you should choose guided tours to use the time you have and to capture the important points of the entire collection.

If you are a Picasso fan, the Hermitage will be an unforgettable experience for you. Because the famous painter’s ‘The boy with the dog’ and ‘Visit – Two Sisters’ works, especially, are part of this great collection. Another important part of the museum, along with these, is the part where magnificent works from the ancient Egyptian period were exhibited. In this collection, there are 7,500 pieces of works belonging to this period. There is a special section where the works of the Ottoman period are exhibited in the museum.

The museum, which is closed on Mondays, welcomes art lovers between 10:30 am – 9:00 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays, while the other days between 10:30 am – 6:00 pm.
